Other Interests Despite being an astrophysicist, I still fancy myself as an amateur astronomer. That of course means I like to spend time outside in the coldest, darkest places I can find fumbling with knobs and trinkets. And, once I think I’ve found what I was looking for, I find it was dew drop on my lens. In my spare time (essentially non-existent), I like to contemplate the more bizarre side of physics, particle physics and string theories. The more exotic and energetic objects in science like the big bang, neutron stars, supernovae, and black holes capture my imagination. Though, I do have a practical side, I like to tinker with electronics and play the bass guitar. I am an avid hiker and biker… when I get the time. I have hiked and backpacked in France, Norway, and all over the US. When I get the chance, I would like to hike in the Andes and Himalayas… but that’s just a pipe dream. I enjoy some of the finer sides of life: good food, company, and scotch. |

Background I was born a Montanan, not too far from the beautiful Rocky Mountains. I lived about half of my life in Montana and the other half in the equally lovely Oregon, with a few years in Colorado sprinkled in there. Raised to enjoy nature through appreciation of its beauty and its power, I have become an outdoor enthusiast. I think a good strenuous hike ameliorates one’s worries and gives one a fresh perspective. But beyond mere physical activity in nature, I enjoy scientific illustration of flora and fauna and photography. |
